After moving to the top of the 2026 MotoGP standings this past weekend, Ducati’s Marc Marquez will now look to extend his points tally over Aprilia’s Jorge Martin and Marco Bezzecchi at the upcoming Austrian MotoGP.

Marquez claimed top spot at San Marino on Sunday, finishing 0.657s ahead of his younger brother, Alex, and subsequently moved to the top of the rider’s standings in the process.

The 33-year-old’s win was supplemented by Bezzecchi crashing out of his home race on the second-place after acquiring pole position before the race. Marquez thus moved level on points with Martin, who finished in fifth position.

While Marquez won the main race, the seven-time MotoGP winner also claimed victory in Saturday’s sprint race, taking his tally to five wins and five podiums this season.

Marquez now heads into the Austrian MotoGP as a one-time winner at the Red Bull Ring after lifting the trophy on 17 August 2025, in what was his 1000th premier class race in MotoGP.

Speaking after his win at the Misano World Circuit, Marquez revealed that he felt relaxed throughout the race and that Ducati won with the right strategy during the sprint race.

“I felt free, relaxed, especially the mentality was flowing,” Marquez said.

“I was very convinced of what I need to be fast. It’s true that it helps that the speed was good from FP1, and from that point I just tried to ride in the best way possible.

“[In the Sprint], we won by strategy – choosing the medium [compound] rear tyre – and today Marco [Bezzecchi] did the mistake and we tried to just take that benefit.”
