Matchday 11

Leeds United v Arsenal

Elland Road
Leeds, England

Arsenal will be targeting their fourth win on the spin in the Premier League when they take on Leeds at Elland Road on Sunday. October 16.

The Gunners returned to the league summit with a 3-2 home victory over Liverpool on Sunday, having briefly been knocked off top spot by Manchester City the previous day.

Mikel Arteta's side have responded to their first defeat of the season against Manchester United last month in a resounding manner by beating two of their apparent title rivals in Tottenham and the Reds.

Arteta was thrilled with the latest result which he described as a "phenomenal" achievement against one of the best teams in the country, with Bukayo Saka securing the win from the penalty spot on 76 minutes after the visitors had twice cancelled out their lead.

"I'm really happy, really proud of the team and really satisfied with the way we played," the Spaniard said of their win over the Merseysiders.

"We showed real desire, composure, quality and courage to play and win the game the way we won it. Physically what we have done, and what the players have produced individually was phenomenal.

"There's not another way. Against Liverpool you have to match or be better than them at that."

The Whites have struggled for form of late after going three games unbeaten at the start of the campaign, including a surprise 3-0 win over Chelsea.

A 2-1 defeat at Crystal Palace on Sunday extended their winless streak to five outings and left Jesse Marsch's team in 14th position, just three points clear of the relegation zone.

Marsch was disappointed to come away from Selhurst Park empty-handed after witnessing a fine first-half performance from his players, admitting they didn't threaten the home goal enough after the break.

"In general, the first half was very good from us. It was one of our best halves of football and we were on top of the game.

"The shame was, that we weren't able to manage the game better to go in at half-time with the lead as I think we should have been two-nil up at least.

"They got a set-piece goal which we take pride in, so we weren't happy about that and then that allowed them to make adjustments and the game was a little bit in the balance for the second half.

"They managed to get the goal and we weren't able to create enough chances, so in the end it hurts because we walk away with nothing."
