Matchday 14

Real Sociedad v Sevilla

Reale Arena

San Sebastian, Spain

Sunday 26 November 2023

Kick-off is at 17h15

Real Sociedad will look to add to Sevilla’s worries when the teams meet for a clash in La Liga, set for the Real Arena in San Sebastian on the late afternoon of Sunday 26 November 2023.

Current Form

Real racked up back-to-back 3-1 wins – over Benfica in the UEFA Champions League on November 8 and over Almeria in La Liga on November 11, with Mikel Oyarzabal scoring in both matches.

The Basque hosts have claimed four wins from their last five home matches across all competitions – the only exception being a 1-0 reverse against Barcelona early in November.

Sevilla have failed to win any of their last six La Liga matches, with a 1-1 stalemate against derby rivals Real Betis on November 12 bringing up a fifth successive draw.

Los Nervionenses are just five points above the relegation zone and seeking a first win in La Liga since a 5-1 triumph over Almeria in late September.

Team News

Neither team has any suspension concerns.

Real are set to be without Martin Merquelanz (knee injury), while Sevilla’s absentee list includes Sergio Ramos (leg injury), Marcão (muscle injury), Marcos Acuña (achilles tendon contusion) and Ørjan Nyland (hip problems).

Quotes

“Almería has done a great job, because they have a great coach who, if they are patient, is going to get performance out of the players he has and is going to push forward,” said Real coach Imanol Alguacil after their triumph just before the international break.

"But I think that, without being brilliant, we have generated more clear situations than they, like when taking advantage before the break, and we scored the goal. If anyone deserved the victory, I think it was us.”

Head-to-Head

In head-to-head terms, Real and Sevilla have met in 48 matches across all competitions dating back as far as 1994. Los Nervionenses have claimed 19 wins compared to 16 for La Real, while 13 games have been drawn.

The teams’ most recent meeting was in June 2023, with Real winning 2-1 at home thanks to goals from Brais Mendez and Mohamed Cho.
