2021/22 English Premier League

Matchday 28

Manchester City v Manchester United

Etihad Stadium
Manchester, England
Sunday, 6 March 2022
Kick-off is at 18h30

Sunday, March 6, is derby day in Manchester as City and United lock horns at the Etihad Stadium in what will be the 187th meeting between the two clubs.

The Citizens have been the dominant force in the Premier League over the last decade, winning the title five times compared to just one for the Red Devils.

However, Pep Guardiola's side has only won four of the last 10 encounters against their neighbours, who also claimed the bragging rights in the city on four occasions.

The defending champions currently hold a six-point lead over second-placed Liverpool in the standings, having played one game more.

They bounced back from a shock 3-2 defeat at home to Tottenham on February 19 with a 1-0 victory on the road against Everton this past weekend.

City had to wait until the 82nd minute to breach the Toffees' defence and Guardiola admits every remaining match will be a challenge in their quest to retain the crown.

"Every game will be similar [to Everton], for sure," the Spaniard said after the clash at Goodison Park. "Everyone plays to survive, for the Europa League, for the Champions League, to be champions.

"Every game will be a battle. We have spoken about that. It is not the first time we have been in this situation and we learn from the past.

"If you want to be champions in the Premier League against this rival - Liverpool are not going to drop points - you have to do a job in nearly all the games."

United dropped more points in the race for a top-four finish after being held to a goalless draw by Watford on Saturday, although the visitors can count themselves lucky after coming under siege at Old Trafford.

Ralf Rangnick has still only suffered one defeat in the league since taking charge and his team is unbeaten in eight outings.

They remain in fourth spot, two points ahead of West Ham, although sixth-placed Arsenal have three matches in hand on them both.

Rangnick rued another missed opportunity and admits the Red Devils cannot keep dropping points if they hope to qualify for the UEFA Champions League.

"We have to work hard in order to get ready and prepare ourselves for the derby next Sunday, but those two points that we dropped here today, they hurt," the German tactician said.

"We will start [preparing for the City game] at the beginning of next week. But right now, it feels awful, and as I said it's not the first time that we dropped two valuable points."
