Tiger Woods will be looking to end his three-year trophy drought when he competes in the Open Championship.

Despite having won his last professional tournament in 2019, Woods still holds the joint record for most official PGA Tour events won (82), tied with Sam Snead.

The American icon, who has lifted three Open Championship titles, clinched the 2019 Zozo Championship and it remains his last win on the PGA Tour.

At the age of 24, Woods won his first Open Championship in 2000 and fourth major title, eight strokes ahead of runners-up Thomas Bjørn and Ernie Els.

Five years later back the Cypress-born superstar opened with scores of 66 and 67 before closing with efforts of 71 and 70 to win the 2005 Open Championship by five shots from Colin Montgomerie.

Woods then held off Chris DiMarco, Ernie Els, Jim Furyk, and Sergio García for a two-shot victory in the 2006 Open Championship - the win was his second consecutive title and third overall.

The last time the 46-year-old took part in a professional tournament was at the 2022 PGA Championship two months ago, but he was forced to withdraw after three rounds due to health reasons.

"This is a pretty historic Open that we are going to be playing," Woods said ahead of this year's Open Championship.

"I'm lucky enough to be part of the past champions that have won there, and want to play there again,

"And I don't know when they are ever going to go back while I'm still able to play at a high level. I want to be able to give it at least one more run at a high level."

Harry Vardon is the most decorated golfer in the history of the Open Championship having won it a record six times.
