Day 3 of the 2019 FIFA U-20 World Cup sees European heavyweights Portugal and France looking to make a big impact in their first matches at the finals in Poland.
Portugal, who won the 2018 UEFA European U-19 Championships, will be making their 12th U-20 World Cup appearance. They are two-time champions (1989 & 1991) and will fancy their chance of opening their Group F campaign with a win over Korea Republic in Bielsko Biala.
France, who have appeared in six previous World Cups and won the tournament in 2013, will be in action at the Gdynia Stadium as they take on Saudi Arabia (last year’s Asian champions at U-19 level) in what promises to be a thrilling clash.
While the European heavyweights will take the headlines, CAF representatives South Africa and Mali will be hoping to raise eyebrows with their performances. The Young Eagles of Mali are best placed to pick up three points in the opening round, as they start as favourites to defeat Panama in a Group E clash at Bydgoszcz.
South Africa, who are appearing at just their fourth U-20 World Cup and have never advanced further than the last 16, face an incredibly tough test against six-time champions Argentina in a Group F clash at the Tychy Stadium on Saturday night.
