The 2026 Azerbaijan Grand Prix returns to the Baku City Circuit this weekend as round 15 of the 2026 Formula 1 World Championship.
What to know about the Azerbaijan Grand Prix
Baku is one of Formula 1’s most unpredictable street circuits, mixing the tight castle section with a 2.2km blast along the Caspian Sea.
The race first appeared as the European Grand Prix in 2016 and became the Azerbaijan Grand Prix in 2017.
The 2026 race has been moved to Saturday because Sunday is Azerbaijan’s Remembrance Day.

Kimi Antonelli took victory for Mercedes in the Spanish Grand Prix in Madrid on 13 September, round 14 of the 2026 Formula 1 World Championship.
Max Verstappen finished second for Red Bull, with Lando Norris third for McLaren.
Standings
Kimi Antonelli leads the Drivers’ Championship with 292 points. George Russell is second on 211, Lewis Hamilton third on 191, Lando Norris fourth on 186 and Charles Leclerc fifth on 167.
Mercedes head the Constructors’ Championship ahead of Ferrari and McLaren.

All eyes will be on the title contenders around the Baku walls: Antonelli, Russell, Hamilton, Norris, Leclerc, Verstappen and Oscar Piastri.
Mercedes arrive with strong momentum after Spain, while Ferrari, McLaren and Red Bull will look to return to winning ways in Baku.

“Looking at the race pace, I think this is for us a great result. Of course, we know that Lando got unlucky with that VSC," Verstappen said after his second-place finish at the 2026 Spanish Grand Prix.
"For us, I think today P2 is an incredible result, because you could see how much Lando was catching me. But around here you can’t pass, so I could keep him behind.
"And for us, of course, P2 is incredible.”
