UEFA Champions League final

Juventus v Real Madrid

Saturday, 3 June 2017

Millennium Stadium, Cardiff

20h45 CAT

Juventus and Real Madrid will battle for the UEFA Champions League trophy when they meet in the final at Millennium Stadium in Cardiff, Wales, on Saturday evening, kick-off at 20h45. This will be a clash of this season’s leading scorers in the tournament (Real, 32 goals) and it’s best defence (Juve, 3 goals conceded), as well a repeat of the 1998 Champions League final. [

That match in Amsterdam 19 years ago was won 1-0 by Real Madrid against a Juventus team which featured current ‘Los Blancos’ coach Zinedine Zidane. It was Real’s seventh European crown (of a total of 11) and saw Juve suffer the third of a record six losses in the final. In all, the teams have met in 18 matches in European competition and the record is dead-even at eight wins apiece and two draws. The last time this pair met in the Champions League was in the semifinals in 2015: Juve won the first leg in Turin 2-1 and claimed a 1-1 draw in the return in Madrid to advance 3-2 on aggregate.

Juve, who defeated Porto, Barcelona and Monaco in the knockout rounds, are chasing a treble of trophies this season after already picking up the Serie A title and the Coppa Italia. ‘The Old Lady’ have faced Spanish opposition 53 times in European competition and recorded 19 wins compared to 20 losses. Real, who defeated Napoli, Bayern Munich and Atletico Madrid, are chasing a double of trophies after dethroning arch rivals Barcelona as La Liga winners. The Spanish giants have faced Italian teams 69 times and come away with 33 wins compared to 25 losses.

Real Madrid are looking to become the first back-to-back winners in the Champions League era (1992/93 onwards). The last team to win successive European Cups was AC Milan in 1988/98 and 1989/90.
