Players Who Didn’t Make Their Summer Switch

The transfer season has to be one of the most frustrating period in the football calendar (and international breaks obviously) for fans and players alike. Rumours fuel transfer news, fans have no clue where their favourite players will end up when the season starts, some players, admittedly, also don’t know where they’ll end up.

Despite a number of big transfers at the end of this window, there’s still some wantaway players who have no choice but to wait to make their dream moves.

Christian Eriksen

Manager Mauricio Pochettino reasserted that the Dane wanted to stay in London, at least for another season, despite rife rumours linking him with a number of big clubs including Real Madrid and Juventus.

The English Premier League transfer window closing before all other leagues is an Achilles as clubs and players in Engand cannot settle until all other transfer windows close. As a result, the Spurs manager conceded there were some players who were still “unsettled” following a slow start to the season with two draws and a loss to Newcastle.

The playmaker was left out the squad for a couple of games however, scored in the North London Derby on his return to the starting lineup. With only 12 months left on his contract, this may be the last season Spurs fans may enjoy the majestic midfielder.

Paul Pogba

Paul Pogba

Real Madrid have always had the reputation of signing the best players in the world (with the exception of Messi of course) and Paul Labile Pogba is no exception. Fiorentina Perez and Zidane have made their desire to sign the World Cup winner public.

A move to Madrid for Pogba was made even more tempting after an overall abysmal season and failure failure to finish in the top 4 last season.

Despite all these factors in favour of Madrid, Los Blancos representatives would be the first to admit that signing the France international would be near impossible (perhaps as improbable as Neymar going back to Barca this season).

His five year contract expires in 2021 however if the stars align (which they usually do for big players such as Pogba), this could see him move to one of the biggest clubs in the world sooner than we think.

Gareth Bale

Gareth Bale

One player wants to move to Real Madrid, another wants away, no more than Gareth Bale. However, this case is rather a curious one. Gareth Bale was the natural replacement as the next big player at Madrid once Cristiano Ronaldo penned a deal with the Italian giants Juventus.

However, prior to the start of the 19/20 season, Zidane seemed more certain than ever that Bale’s services would not be required at Madrid.

The Welshman was set to move to Chinese Super League side Jiangsu Suning in a big money move until his transfer was blocked as the Spanish side were unhappy that they would not recoup the €100 million they paid for him in 2013.

Now Gareth Bale and Zidane have made amends however I get the feeling this saga is not over just yet.

Paulo Dyabala

Paulo Dyabala

The Prince of Italian football has been heavily linked with a move to Spurs in much of the summer transfer window. The deal supposedly broke down, as the clubs couldn’t agree on image rights fees for the Italian (and not becuase of the hefty £350,000 wages he requested, i know).

Spurs will try again to sign Dyabala in the January transfer window and the deal might include a swap with Christian Eriksen.

Neymar Jr

Neymar Jr

When it comes to transfer rumours, it gets no bigger than Neymar Jr and Barcelona. Having signed for PSG for a world record €222million in 2017, leaving the French champions before the end of his contract would always prove to be Mission Improbable.

Ultimately, the season has started with Neymar staying in Paris however this is only the first episode of a series that may play out over the next couple of transfer windows.
