Matchday 9

Mamelodi Sundowns vs Durban City

Royal Bafokeng Stadium

Phokeng, South Africa

Saturday, 31 October 2026

Kick-off is at 20:15

Current Betway Premiership leaders Mamelodi Sundowns could extend their unbeaten streak this weekend when they take on Durban City on Saturday and at the same time, hope to maintain their place at the summit of the log.

After missing out on qualifying for the CAF Champions League group stage, coupled with a win in the Carling Knockout Round of 16, Downs will now shift their attention to the Betway Premiership where they will look to add to their 23 points for the season.

Following a commanding 4-1 win against Richards Bay in their most recent league fixture on 13 October, Downs preserved a slender one-point lead over second-placed Orlando Pirates who has a game in hand.

Sundowns have now recorded four wins and one draw in their last five, while Durban City faced the opposite fortunes with one victory, two stalemates and two defeats in their previous handful of league games.

A 2-1 defeat against AmaZulu last time out saw the KwaZulu Natal end gameweek eight in 10th position after noting just seven points for the campaign.

Durban City last tasted victory on 25 August following a 2-0 away with over Kruger United.

Speaking on Sundowns recent battles and their season as a whole, Miguel Cardoso believes an injury crisis has hindered his side’s progress during the last couple of weeks and that he is set on finding the antidote to their problems on the pitch.

“The team is obviously struggling a little bit with so many absences, as you may imagine,” Cardoso said.

You look at the team, and you understand that there are many, many, many important players that are not on the pitch. That breaks the connections a little bit, obviously.

“We will work hard to find the right solutions and find again the right pace that obviously will make us happy and will bring smiles to our fans.”
