Sepang, Malaysia
Sunday, 26 October 2025
The
2025 Malaysian MotoGP is poised to take place in Pekan Sepang, a town mostly well-known for being the home of Malaysia's largest airport, on 26 October.
What to know about the Malaysian MotoGP
The first Malaysian Grand Prix was held in 1991 at the Shah Alam Circuit as the final race of the season and in 2020, the event was scrapped due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
In 1999, the event moved to the Petronas Sepang International Circuit, which was designed by Hermann Tilke and the race is due to take place there until at least 2026.
Most recent race
The Australian MotoGP, which was the 19th round of the 2025 MotoGP World Championship calendar, took place on 19 October.
The race was won by Raul Fernandez of Aprilia, while Ducati rider Fabio Di Giannantonio and Aprilia's Marco Bezzecchi finished second and third, respectively.
Standings
Marc Marquez is placed at the top of the 2025 MotoGP riders' standings and he has already been crowned as the 2025 world champion.
His brother, Alex, and Bezzecchi are placed second and third, respectively, as the two riders battle for the runners-up spot.
Looking at the constructors' standings, dominant Ducati are placed at the top, having already won the 2025 world title, and they are followed by Aprilia and KTM, respectively.
Favourites
Alex Marquez and Bezzecchi are the clear favourites to win the Malaysian MotoGP, as Marc Marquez remains sidelined by a ligament injury in his right shoulder, which also forced him to miss the Australian MotoGP.
Reigning Malaysian MotoGP champion Francesco Bagnaia and Fernandez, who are placed fourth and 10th respectively in the 2025 MotoGP riders' standings, are also good contenders for this weekend's race in Sepang.
Quotes
“We did an amazing job last week in the preparation of the weekend, because the team did a lot of analysis and studying, and understood what the best package could be for us to race with here,” Di Giannantonio said after finishing second at the 2025 Australian MotoGP.
“That was the key to making this kind of performance. It’s a bittersweet feeling because we know that we ruined our chances to make a possible win after qualifying. But it was out of our control, so it is like this. For sure, the fever didn’t help at all. “Last night I was really sick.
"I had to get the job done. We did an amazing race. I’m so proud of the overtakes because it was not easy starting from P10.”
