Oklahoma City Thunder v Denver Nuggets

2021-22 NBA Pre-Season

Friday 15 October 2021

BOK Center, Tulsa, Oklahoma

Tip-off at 02:00

The Oklahoma City Thunder and the Denver Nuggets will both be looking to sharpen up when they meet in a 2021-22 NBA Pre-Season game, set for the BOK Center in Tulsa, Oklahoma on the morning of Friday 15 October 2021. Tip-off is at 02:00.

The Thunder are looking to punch above their weight for the coming campaign, with their young team lacking experience but showing great potential. Yet they will need veteran hands to help steer the ship, with Derrick Favors emphasising that he is looking forward to being a leader in the Oklahoma camp.

“I was once the young player on the team and I had vets around me that helped me out,” Favors explained. “And throughout the years as I've got older, there's always younger players coming in, then as an older player you kind of gravitate towards the younger guy, help them out. It's kind of something that I haven't been put in this position before, but it's kind of something that I'm excited about.”

The Nuggets, meanwhile, have not impressed in Pre-Season thus far and the continued absence of Jamal Murray (long-term knee injury) puts pressure on the likes of Nikola Jokic. However, rookie Bones Hyland has impressed in his time on the court and there is talk that he could be one of the breakout stars of the new season.

“He can get to places on the court that a lot of guys can’t,” Nuggets coach Michael Malone said. “There’s so much being thrown at him right now, so you give that young man a lot of credit because it’s not just the physical, it’s also the mental. For a young kid coming out of college, I think he’s ahead of the curve. … And on top of that, he’s just a tremendous kid.”

In head-to-head stats, the Thunder and the Nuggets have met in 208 Regular Season and Playoff games since 1976-77, with Oklahoma claiming 111 wins compared to 97 for Denver. The teams’ last meeting was in February 2021, with the Nuggets claiming a fourth successive win over the Thunder thanks to a 126-96 away victory.
