Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos has included talismanic midfielder Themba Zwane in his 54-player preliminary squad for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) in Morocco next month.
South Africa starts the tournament with a clash against Angola on December 22 in Marrakech and it remains to be seen if Zwane will be at the tournament because he hasn’t played much for Mamelodi Sundowns this season.
The 36-year-old has battled injuries but Broos is hoping coach Miguel Cardoso will give him opportunities in their remaining two matches of the year against MC Alger in the Champions League and Siwelele FC in the league.
While Zwane’s place hangs in the balance, but there are a players like goalkeeper and captain Ronwen Williams, Khuliso Mudau, Aubrey Modiba, Nkosinathi Sibisi, Mbekezeli Mbokazi, Teboho Mokoena, Thalente Mbatha, Bathusi Aubaas, Sipho Mbule, Oswin Appollis, Mohau Nkota, Sphephelo Sithole and Lyle Foster and Evidence Makgopa wo are almost certainties.
There are outsiders like Thabang Matuludi, Thabo Moloisane, Thabiso Monyane, Tshepang Moremi, Mduduzi Shabalala, Puso Dithejane, Elias Mokwane, Keletso Makgalwa, Masindi Nemutajela and Patrick Maswanganyi.
