Red Bull Racing's Sergio Perez will be looking to firm his grip on second place in the Drivers' standings at the Las Vegas Grand Prix on Sunday, November 18.

The Mexican extended the gap to Mercedes' Lewis Hamilton to 32 points after his P4 in the Brazilian Grand Prix, with the former seven-time world champion only managing P8.

Perez started ninth on the grid in Sao Paulo after Oscar Piastri's McLaren slid off into the grass during qualifying and the yellow flag forced the Red Bull driver to slow down.

However, 'Checo' quickly made his way through the pack and was involved in a fierce battle with Aston Martin's Fernando Alonso for P3, having overtaken the Spaniard on the penultimate lap but failed to fend him off on the final lap.

The 33-year-old has had awful luck in 2023 with mechanical problems in qualifying resulting in him starting way down the grid in numerous races, while he crashed out on the opening lap of the Mexican Grand Prix in an attempt to overtake Ferrari's Charles Leclerc.

Perez will secure the runner-up spot if he finishes six points ahead of Hamilton in Las Vegas and he believes it is "just a matter of time" before he starts challenging for a place on the podium again.

"The pace has been there for the last few weekends, but for some reason or another, we haven't been able to put it all together," he said.

"I think it is just a matter of time before it will come, [Brazil] was a good weekend for the championship, because we are getting closer to second spot.

"So now let's look forward to Vegas, and it is just a matter of time before we are able to show what we have got.

"After Qatar, when I went back to the team, we understood a lot of things that we were doing wrong. Since then, Austin was a compromised weekend, but even Mexico was quite good, I mean, I went off, but I was very close to the lead, so we are really making progress."

2023 Brazilian Grand Prix results:

Winner: Max Verstappen - Red Bull Racing
Second Place: Lando Norris - McLaren
Third Place: Fernando Alonso - Aston Martin
