Seven-time Formula 1 champion Lewis Hamilton will miss the first Free Practice of the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix this weekend, with Mercedes announcing the Brit’s replacement recently.

Toto Wolff and company will be without their star driver for a practice session this weekend, as Mercedes announced that Silver Arrows’ development driver Frederik Vesti will be in the cockpit of Hamilton’s W14.

The successful constructor’s team will use this weekend to benefit one of their younger drivers, as part of Formula 1’s young driver programme. The programme entails that each team must put out a driver with less than two Grand Prix races, twice a season.

That said, Hamilton will finish third in the Driver’s Championship and currently sits on 232 points behind Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez.

Hamilton could only managed a 7th place finish at the Las Vegas Grand Prix last week, while teammate George Russel ended one position behind the popular driver.

With the Las Vegas Grand Prix producing a spectacle for fans around the world, Hamilton feels that there are enough races held in the United States. Instead, Hamilton feels that if a new race were to be introduced, Africa is where it should be headed to.

“I think so, but it’s not my job to decide how many races there is [in America],” Hamilton told Sky Sports.

“But we definitely don’t need anymore! We definitely don’t need any more races.

“There’s one more race we need and that’s going to be Africa. We have all the other continents and why not there? So that’s the one I’m working on pushing right now.”

2023 Las Vegas Grand Prix results:

Winner: Max Verstappen - Red Bull Racing
Second Place: Charles Leclerc - Ferrari
Third Place: Sergio Perez – Red Bull Racing
