Francesco Bagnaia will chase a second race win in the 2025 MotoGP World Championship when he competes at the Grand Prix of the United Kingdom, set to be held at the iconic Silverstone Circuit in Northamptonshire this weekend.

‘Pecco’, as the Ducati Lenovo star is affectionately known, comes into this race on the back of a poor showing last time out in France, where he only managed a 16th-place finish – having struggled to find the right strategy to deal with the changing weather conditions.

Bagnaia has generally struggled to match up with the pace of his teammate, Marc Marquez, who has dominated the 2025 season to date and leads the Riders’ Championship with 171 points – compared to only 120 for the two-time former World Champion in third spot.

The one exception was at the Grand Prix of the Americas in late March, when Bagnaia took full advantage of a DNF (Did Not Finish) for Marquez to claim his only race win (either sprint or Grand Prix) of the season thus far.

Ducati Corse general manager Gigi Dall’Igna notes that the Ducati Lenovo team needs to help Bagnaia return to his best after a tough start to the campaign.

“For Pecco, a great disappointment, even more so considering the chosen strategy [starting on wets] that would certainly have seen him amongst the leaders, were it not for the unfortunate crash caused by a mistake that was not his own,” said Dall’Igna.

“A weekend that had started with great promise on Friday, but then inexorably turned negative. Fact remains that we must all pitch our efforts together to resolve this situation and return a smile to Pecco's face.”

Bagnaia has finished on the podium in all of the last three Grands Prix of the United Kingdom, winning the race in 2022 – the year he won his first MotoGP Riders’ Championship title.
