Semifinals and Final

The 2026 Men’s T20 World Cup is set to draw to a thrilling conclusion this week, with semifinals pitting South Africa against New Zealand, and hosts India against England, before the final at the Narendra Modi Stadium – the world’s largest stadium by capacity – on Sunday in Ahmedabad.

First up on Wednesday in Kolkata, South Africa will look to keep up their perfect record (played 7, won 7) in the tournament when they face New Zealand. The Proteas have already beaten the Black Caps once in this tournament, comfortably chasing down 175 in a group stage match on Valentine’s day (14 February) in Ahmedabad to win by 7 wickets – with captain Aiden Markram scoring an unbeaten 86 off 44 balls.

“Yeah, exciting. Really exciting semifinal. Kolkata. Against New Zealand [...] The boys will be up for it,” said Markram of the upcoming clash. “You look at playing one really good game of cricket and hopefully the result takes care of itself. Still 40 overs of good cricket needed and we need to give it that respect.”

New Zealand finished second in Group 2 of the Super 8 stage, edging Pakistan on net run rate. They faced England this past Friday and suffered a 4-wicket defeat, before nervously waiting for the result of the Pakistan v Sri Lanka clash on Saturday, in which the former claimed victory, but were unable to improve their net run rate enough to take second place.

The second semifinal, set for the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Thursday, sees India and England renew their rivalry. The host nation has suffered just one defeat (to South Africa in the Super 8) thus far and secured a 5-wicket win over the West Indies in an effective quarterfinal this past Sunday, led by a brilliant 97 not out from Sanju Samson.

“He's a world-class player, we all know how good a player Sanju is," said India coach Gautam Gambhir. "It was all about backing him. When the team needed him the most - obviously [the match against West Indies] was the day - he showed his full potential.”

England has also suffered just one loss in the tournament thus far (at the hands of the West Indies in the group stage) and impressively topped their Super 8 group ahead of New Zealand, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka.

The semifinal winners will meet in the final on Sunday in Ahmedabad.
