Río Grande, Puerto Rico

March 5-8, 2026

With the PGA Tour returning to Puerto Rico this week, Rafael Compos recently expressed his excitement about competing in the tournament that once spurred him on as a young golfer.

What to know about Rafael Compos

The Puerto Rican-born golfer turned professional in 2011 before a third-place finish on the Tour de las Américas.

It was in 2017 that Compos made a name for himself among the big names of the golfing industry, where he placed 10th at the PGA Puerto Rico Open.

Then, in one of the best moments of his career, Compos finished third at the Puerto Rico Open in 2021, while he was tied for second at the Corales Puntacana Resort and Club Championship a couple of weeks later.

Compos’ most notable career wins came in 2019 and 2024, during The Bahamas Great Abaco Classic and the Butterfield Bermuda Championship, respectively.

In January 2019, Compos edged Vince Whaley by one stroke victory at the Bahamas Great Abaco Classic, while he finished three strokes ahead of Andre Novak at the Butterfield Bermuda Championship in November 2024.

What did he say

Speaking ahead of the Puerto Rico Open, Compos expressed that the tournament provided him with a platform to kick on as a strong contender among the elite.

“I was 19, 20 years old when I first got the chance to play on the Puerto Rico open since the first event,” Compos said.

“It opened up doors that I probably would have never imagined. It was a stepping stone for me to realize that I can play professional golf. That kick-started my ambition

“I played Puerto Rico twice as an amateur, that was the first time I thought, ‘my game is not that far from the best players in the world.’

“It means the world to me, not only for me but for the Puerto Ricans, for tourism, it’s the only week out of the year that we can showcase how beautiful this island is”.
