The Los Angeles Lakers will take on the San Antonio Spurs in a
National Basketball Association (NBA) match at Staples Center on Friday, January 8.
The two giants of American basketball have played each other 232 times since 1976 in the NBA. The Lakers have the upper hand having recorded 121 wins compared to the Spurs' 111 victories.
The last meeting between the two teams was on 2 January 2021 and the Lakers secured a 109-103 victory over the Spurs at the AT and T Center.
The Lakers, who are the defending NBA champions, are placed third on the Western Conference standings having registered five wins and two defeats. They succumbed to a 115-107 defeat to the Portland Trail Blazers in their last home game which was played on 29 December 2020.

Frank Vogel, the Lakers head coach, praised power forward Montrezl Harrell following their 108-94 win over the Memphis Grizzlies on Monday.
“You have to honour everything he does on the offensive end, whether he’s ducking in or rolling to the basket,” Vogel said.
“He’s really picked up his offensive rebounding from early in the season and obviously gives us great defensive determination and fight as well with his communication.
"I thought he did a great job, not only rebounding the ball defensively but boxing out."
Meanwhile, the Spurs are sitting in 12th place on the Western Conference standings having recorded two victories and four defeats from their allotted matches.
They suffered a 98-95 loss to the New Orleans Pelicans in their last away game which took place on 28 December 2020.
