Kaizer Chiefs eye MTN8 final spot win over SuperSport United

MTN8 Semi-final

Second-Leg

Kaizer Chiefs v SuperSport United

FNB Stadium
01 September 2018 @20h15

Kaizer Chiefs will start as favourites to advance to the 2018 MTN8 final when they host SuperSport United at FNB Stadium for the second leg of the teams’ semifinal clash. The match is scheduled for Saturday, September 1, kick-off at 20h15 CAT.

The first leg at Lucas Moripe Stadium on Sunday, August 26 ended in a 2-2 draw. Bradley Grobler scored a brace for SuperSport.

However, strikes from Khama Billiat and Leonardo Castro ensured Chiefs have two away goals in the bag – they need only keep a clean sheet in the return match to ensure they advance into the final.

With their slow start to the league campaign, the Amakhosi and coach Giovanni Solinas desperately need success in the MTN8 to keep their demanding supporters happy.

Fortunately, the Soweto giants boast an unrivalled pedigree in the competition, having won it a record 15 times – most recently in 2014.

Matsatsantsa, meanwhile, claimed the MTN8 trophy last season thanks to a 4-2 penalty shootout win over Cape Town City in the final.

It was the club’s second Top Eight cup title, following their first success in 2004 when the competition was still known as the SAA Supa8.

Last weekend’s clash was the 15th cup game between the teams and 70th across all competitions since 1990. Chiefs lead eight wins to five in terms of knockout football, as well as 27-25 in the overall record.

However, their last two home games against United have both ended in defeat – a fate they must avoid if they are to advance into the final.
