Career Progression

Maseko began his senior career with SuperSport United after progressing through the club’s youth structure. He moved into the first-team group and featured in PSL matches during the 2021/22 and 2022/23 seasons.

He joined Mamelodi Sundowns in July 2023. His early period with the club included PSL appearances, Betway Premiership matches from 2024 onwards, domestic cup involvement and continental competition exposure. He was used mainly as a wide attacking player on the left side.

In January 2026, Maseko moved to AEL Limassol on loan. His 2025/26 season includes league appearances in Cyprus, where he has continued to operate as a left-sided forward.

Playing Style

Maseko operates as a left winger. His role includes holding width, attacking space, supporting transitions, carrying the ball, pressing and making final-third runs.

His strengths include pace, ball carrying, wide movement, pressing, left-footed delivery and final-third runs. He gives his team a direct attacking option who can stretch defensive lines and progress play from wide areas.

What Thapelo Maseko Can Bring to the 2026 World Cup

Thapelo Maseko could bring pace, direct running and left-sided attacking depth to South Africa’s 2026 World Cup squad. His current season includes football in Cyprus and recent Betway Premiership minutes, giving him experience across different league environments.

His strengths suit tournament football because he can carry the ball into space, press from wide areas and support quick transitions. His left-footed profile also gives South Africa a wide option who can attack from the left and support final-third combinations.

If selected, Maseko could offer South Africa a winger with speed, ball progression and attacking movement. His ability to play across attacking roles makes him useful when South Africa need width, energy and direct play.

International Career

Maseko represents South Africa at senior level and has also represented the country at U23 level. His senior national team involvement adds another left-sided attacking option to the squad.
