Scotland make their long-awaited return to the World Cup for the first time since 1998 as they face Haiti in their Group C opener on 14 June.
Head-to-head
The two nations have never met in a competitive fixture. This will be the first-ever encounter between Scotland and Haiti.
Team News
Steve Clarke’s Scotland side blends experienced Premier League and European-based talent with youthful energy.
Captain Andy Robertson is expected to lead from left-back, with key midfielders Scott McTominay and John McGinn providing creativity and drive.
Meanwhile, Haiti, coached by Sébastien Migné, will rely on captain and goalkeeper Johny Placide, who brings vital experience, while the attack is spearheaded by all-time leading scorer Duckens Nazon.
Premier League talents like Jean-Ricner Bellegarde (Wolves) and Wilson Isidor (Sunderland) add quality.
Key Players
Scott McTominay is Scotland’s dynamic force in midfield — his energy, box-to-box runs, and goal-scoring threat (including memorable strikes for club and country) make him a central figure in Clarke’s plans.
The Napoli star will be key to controlling games and creating chances.
For Haiti, Duckens Nazon remains the focal point up front. As the national team’s record goalscorer, his movement, finishing, and experience will be crucial if the Caribbean side are to spring a surprise.
Supporting threats include Wilson Isidor’s pace and Jean-Ricner Bellegarde’s midfield control.
Quotes
“They were good the other night. I think you could see that," said Scotland head coach Steve Clarke about facing Haiti.
"We have a terrible habit, not just in Scotland but in the UK in general, of looking at these nations and thinking they are not very good or looking at where they are ranked in the world. They play in a different section of the world. Maybe their section is really good.
"I think if you watched them play the other night, they were much better than New Zealand. Big, strong, physical. And not only big, strong and physical but they are also technical. They have good players who play in good leagues," he added.
"I was never under any illusion it wasn’t going to be a tough game. It is probably nice that some people get to see how they played the other night. It is going to be a difficult game for us.”
