3rd of 5-match T20 international series

South Africa will be hoping to build on an improved display when they meet the West Indies in the third of a five-match T20I series in Grenada this Tuesday.

The Proteas defeated their hosts by 16 runs on Sunday to level the series at 1-1, following the West Indies convincing win at the National Cricket Stadium a day earlier.

Openers Reeza Hendricks and Quinton de Kock, backed up by captain Temba Bavuma, set the foundation for South Africa and despite a middle-order collapse, the visitors were able to post what proved a competitive total.

The West Indies started strongly but struggled to put together any partnerships of real substance in their response. Man-of-the-match George Linde picked up the vital scalps of Nicholas Pooran and Andre Russell to lead the Proteas' fightback.

“I went back to basics again and did the things that got me into this team and luckily it paid off,” commented Linde after the game.
“I was happy with the way the ball came out; it was my day.

"We knew we could have done better yesterday [Saturday] and fortunately today [Sunday] it worked out for us.”

Windies skipper Kieron Pollard conceded that his team's aggressive style of play won't always pay dividends.

“I accept we occasionally need to temper our aggressive instincts but having said that we’re not going to change our basic approach," said Pollard. "That’s the way we play the game.”

The upcoming fixtures will serve as continued preparation for the ICC Men's T20 World Cup set to get underway in India in October. The West Indies are the defending world champions.
