The last meeting between the two teams ended in a 1-1 draw in an international friendly match which was played at the Gewiss Stadium in Bergamo in November 2016.

Roberto Mancini, the Italy head coach, has talked about central midfielder Marco Verratti, who is recovering from a knee injury.

“He is making giants steps, let’s see if he can make it for the opening game,” Mancini said.

“I always think positive. Maybe we can decide to give him five extra days to be in the best possible condition against Switzerland but I can see he is recovering very well and fast.”
