The English Premier League came to a dramatic close in the 2021/22 season, with a number of teams clashing for coveted positions. There were title battles, Champions League qualification battles and relegation battles, all taking place on the very last day of the season.

Manchester City proved themselves to be English champions, finishing the season on 93 points. This put them one single agonizing point ahead of Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool. On the final day, Liverpool needed both to win, and for Man City to lose, in order to clinch the title and despite an early slip-up, they comfortably defeated Wolves 3-1. The real drama unfolded on the other pitch, with Man City going 2-0 down against Steven Gerrard’s Aston Villa. It was Gundogan who  brought ruin to Liverpool’s hopes by scoring two goals to lead Man City to a 3-2 victory, securing the title.

In the relegation zone, Burnley needed to match or better Leeds’ result to secure their own survival. The odds were definitely in their favor as they faced Newcastle at home while Leeds travelled to Brentford. Fate seemed to have other plans as penalties in both games worked to put Burnley into the relegation zone. Leeds rubber-stamped their survival by scoring a 94th minute winner with Burnley unable to find a dramatic finish and failing to equalize.

With such dramatic clashes behind us, what can we expect from this season? What drama will unfold? Which teams will dominate? Let’s take a look at some of the big fixtures scheduled for the 2022/23 Premier League season.
