Mike De Kock's Horse Racing Picks: World Pool TAB

The World Pool TAB will be in operation at four international meetings this weekend, with betting available via the Betway Tote Portal.

Betway Ambassador Mike de Kock and Mathew de Kock have runners at two local weekend meetings, with a number of fair chances to take note of.

Below, the stable’s runner comments:

Vaal, Saturday 24 January:

Race 2, 1200m:  Detailed Forecast had a long rest, and will need it. She has room for improvement. Her work has been quite competitive actually, she has good place prospects, but she will come on for the run.”

Race 3, 1200m: “Balule is another runner returning from a long layoff and minor surgery. He’s got really good form from his first two runs behind horses like Zalatoris and Shadowfax. We’re very happy with him at home. He’s had a lovely preparation with lots of work. He is a big, strong horse so will make improvement with this run, but he is not far off the mark. If he doesn’t need it too much, he will be in the money – strong eachway chance.”

Race 3, 1200m: “Ghost Town Road hasn’t showed us much, but in saying that we were still disappointed in his debut effort. That race seems to have brought him on, his work is better, especially with the blinkers on. He seems to be concentrating a lot better. We’re hoping for considerable improvement, but can’t give any confidence.”

Race 7, 1800m: “We have Buster Barnes in this Listed feature. As previously reported, he suffered bad colic last year so his first-up run was impressive, considering he missed the break and gave them headstart. We would have preferred another week or two between races, after such a long break. To bounce back after just two weeks won’t be easy, but his work has been really good. He galloped well last Saturday and on Tuesday. He still has a wide gate, that might determine how he runs. But he is in good order and we think he will acquit himself well. Probably just one more run short of his ultimate best, but has eachway claims.”

Race 8, 1700m:  “Trombolines has done nothing wrong to date with two excellent showings, including a win over Reece’s Wish who franked the form nicely earlier this week. Ou runner has improved again, he has tightened up. The extra distance is a question mark, but he gives us indications that 1700m won’t be an issue for him. We’re hoping for a good effort, strong eachway chance.”

Race 9, 1400m: “Yippee Kiyay is a lovely horse who has been running very good races recently. He showed his worth again behind Splittheeights last time. We would have preferred this race to be around the bend, but due to the change of venue to the Vaal it is now on the straight track. He has won here over 1200m, however, and of course his recent run in the Grand Heritage over the straight 1475m was also good. He should run a big race, must have a strong winning chance.”

Hollywoodbets Scottsvile, Sunday 25 January:

Race 5, 1950m: “Curious Girl needed her first run back. She has made improvement, but based on what we saw last time, she is still short of her peak. We’re expecting nice progress, and if that happens, she should be close to ready next time out.”

Race 9, 1200m: “Much the same applies to Khetiwe’s Destiny in this race. We expected better after her rest last time, so she still has to do more to get to a good level of fitness. If she improves here, she will bear close watching in her next start. She is a filly with ability.”
