The Houston Rockets and the Dallas Mavericks will have a Texas battle when they meet for an
NBA Regular Season clash at the Toyota Center in Houston on the morning of Saturday 8 January 2022. Tip-off is at 03:00.
The Rockets are rock bottom of the Western Conference standings after a tough season in which they have not managed a .300 record. This past weekend saw yet another defeat for the Houston team, as they slumped to a 120-110 defeat at home to the Miami Heat.

Jae'Sean Tate scored 22 points off the bench, having returned from a two-game absence due to health and safety protocols. "He gave us everything that he always brings," coach Stephen Silas said. "That shows a lot about him. For him to be out five days and pick up right where he left off is really good."
The Mavericks, meanwhile, are mid-table in the Western Conference and fighting for a place in the Playoffs. They boosted their morale this past weekend with a 112-96 away win over the Sacramento Kings, which featured 24 points, nine rebounds and six assists for Kristaps Porzingis.

"We saw something in the last game and we were able to execute it," said Mavericks coach Jason Kidd, who wouldn't go into specifics about the change. "With no practice, you just hope it works. We knew that they were going to load up on Jalen [Brunson] and Kristaps [Porzingis] so we had to figure out how to get other guys involved. Everyone was sharing the ball and we were getting wide-open looks."
In head-to-head stats, the Rockets and the Mavericks have met in 186 Regular Season games since 1980-81, with Houston claiming 100 wins compared to 86 for Dallas. The teams’ last Regular Season meeting was in October 2021, with the Mavericks winning 116-106 at home thanks to 26 points from Luka Doncic.
