There is a day/night
race meeting on turf at HWB Greyville on Friday, starting at 14:40; a super quality meeting at HWB Kenilworth on Saturday – featuring an expected R3-million carryover Pick 6 pool, and an eight-race card at Turffontein on Sunday.
Betway Ambassador Mike de Kock and Mathew de Kock will be saddling runners at two meetings, starting at
HWB Greyville, and here are Mat’s comments:
Race 4, 1900m: “Councillor seems to have made some improvement on her 1900m win. Ideally, we would have liked to step her up in in distance, as we’ve always thought of her as one that will do well over 2000m and up. But this D Stakes over 1800m came along, she gets a sex allowance and it’s worth running her and putting blinkers on. She is not out of it, hard to say how she’ll go. If she runs a good race, she’ll be a filly to follow.”
Race 5, 1900m: “Gota Go Eddie is in good form. We think he’s going to enjoy the 1900m, and he has a good eachway chance.”
Race 6, 1200m: “A very competitive Middle Stakes Sprint, and we have
Icy Blast. He has a soft draw, should be in a good spot and has been running good races of late. He must also have an eachway chance – this race has many lively contenders.”
Race 7, 1600m: “Ingqwele is back on turf, his Polytrack form is a bit below his form on grass so this augurs well for him. He has won two races over a mile, has eachway prospects.
Turffontein:
Race 3, 1160m: “A newcomer in
Special Al, a colt by Rafeef. He’s a tall, lanky horse that shows a lot of speed for a tall horse. He has a nice eachway chance first time out, should go well.”
Race 5, 1160m: Yippee Kiyay has no chance at the weights in this field. But he enjoys sprinting, he is in good form, doing well and he will try his best. At the handicap terms in this Plate race, he has a stiff task, but he should run a fair race.”
Race 7, 1200m: “Two nice three-year-olds here.
Miami Mountain drops back to 1200m, his sprint form is faultless, he found the 1400m in the Graham Beck too far.
One Eye On Vegas ran a super race in the Graham Beck. But had a bit of a virus after that so we’ve elected to use this opportunity to see how effective he is over 1200m. He is a very fast horse with a good turn of foot, so should have a strong chance. We look forward to see what he produces over this trip.”

Former Champion jockey Keagan De Melo, having returned from a stint in Hong Kong, could be back on the Grade 1 honours roll in the WSB Cape Fillies Guineas at Kenilworth, where he rides star filly Golden Palm for Alan Greeff.
While Golden Palm takes on the smart stakes winner Princess Of Gaul and the unbeaten Reef Petite in their own back yard, her recent comeback win suggested that she may be even better than she was last season. She is a potential banker in the carryover Pick 6.
The supporting feature is the Grade 3 Southern Cross Stakes, which looks a good picking for the talented mare Asiye Phambile. She won this contest in good style last year. She has been transferred to Lucinda Woodruff’s yard at Milnerton, and indications are that another good performance is expected.
Pick 6 punters can access the TAB Tote pool via the Betway portal, with 6% betting tax returned at month-end.
