This weekend’s action promises plenty of excitement, starting with eight races at Fairview’s Polytrack, followed by a day-night meeting at
HWB Greyville on Friday. Alan Greeff and Richard Fourie could dominate the Fairview meeting with several good runners.
On Saturday, the attention turns to the unique WSB Grand Heritage at the Vaal, where a massive field of 22 runners will battle it out for top honours. It’s a standalone meeting packed with challenging fields, and punters can expect some whopping exotic payouts. You can play into the exotics via the Betway Tote Portal, and get your 6% betting tax refunded at month-end.
Sunday keeps the energy flowing at HWB Kenilworth with another lively summer meeting. Keep an eye on the Betway boards for the best fixed-odds value. Trainer Candice Bass and jockey Aldo Domeyer, four times successful on Wednesday, should get among the winners again. All The Rage (Race 6, 1200m), Du Maurier (Race 7, 1200m) and Tanneron (Race 8, 1200m) are all lively contenders.
Betway Ambassador Mike de Kock and Mathew de Kock have three runners at the Greyville meeting, and Mat commented below:
Race 4, 2400m: “Councillor ran a good race under a big weight last time. She is likely to enjoy the longer trip as she stays on very well, and has a light weight against slightly stronger this time. She has good eachway prospects.”
Race 5, 1600m: “Gotta Go Eddie drops back to a mile. He just ran out of steam over 1900m last time out and will be better suited now. He has been consistent and should run a good race again, include.”
Race 7, 1000m: “I’m A Fireball is showing us some good work at home after his break. He is rated 102 and that is very high for a young horse. He meets some hard-knocking older horses and it’s hard to know what to expect from him.”
The team has a further five runners going to the Vaal, Saturday (
Ruby From Heaven may be scratched, please confirm on race day).
Race 3, 1200m: “We saddle a newcomer in
Ghost Town Road. He is by One World out of Red Granite, and is a colt who hasn’t shown us much. He has been a difficult horse to train. He will probably be better when he goes over further.”
Race 6, 1475m: “This is the Grand Heritage to be run over the tricky 1475m and it’s always an open and winnable race. We have three contenders, starting with the mare
Calantha, who has ability and is in top form. She’s run some good races in stronger company and she’s also done well over 1400m twice. We are confident of a good run from her, she has a chance. We’re also positive about our promising young horse
, Yippee Kiyay. He ran a cracker over 1160m last week, but has failed in two starts over 1400m. Still, he finds himself in a good space off a handy weight and has to be included. We’ve brought
Bristol Hercules from Durban to Johannesburg. He’s a useful horse who will enjoy the longer straights on the Highveld. He could run well, not without a place chance.”
Race 8, 1475m: “My Lucky Charm ran on to win his Maiden. This will be his first start as a gelding, he will just need it a bit. But this leg is in the Pick 6, it is quite open and he has a light weight, so can’t be safely ignored.”
