Season 4 of
Betway SA20 is almost upon us and we are in for a bigger and better instalment of this unbelievable competition. Six teams, all filled with star-studded players, are ready to take the field once again hoping to go all the way in search of glory and the champions crown.
Defending champions, MI Cape Town, will be looking to defend their crown and give their Newlands faithful another season to remember. Afghanistan captain, Rashid Khan, will be looking to lead his side to victory, like he did last season, and with the likes of Ryan Rickelton, Nicholas Pooran of the West Indies who can star with the bat, allrounder George Linde and world class bowlers, Kagiso Rabada and New Zealander Trent Boult, they are certain to put on a great show for the fans. Local neighbors, Paarl Royals, will also want to exert some dominance after going undefeated at Boland Park in the round-robin phase last season. Big hitter David Miller is back again to lead the team with opening batsman Lhuan-dre Pretorius looking to hit 6’s out the park, young spinner Nqaba Peter, wicketkeeper-batter Kyle Verreyenne, new recruit, Hardus Viljoen who joins the Royals from the Joburg Super Kings and Zimbabwean Sikandar Raza who can do damage with bat and ball, could all do something special.
The Betway SA20 auction saw the Pretoria Capitals sign talented youngster Dewald Brevis for a record breaking R16.5 million. This big hitter who left MI Cape Town, will want to bring his form into the franchise after scoring his maiden T20 century against Australia earlier on in the year. He will be joined by the likes of overseas West Indian trio Shai Hope, Andre Russell and Sherfane Rutherford as well as English duo Saqib Mahmood and Craig Overton. South African fast bowler Lungi Ngidi will want to show off his versatility with the ball and be crowned leading wicket-taker, alongside fellow South African Keshav Maharaj. The Capitals will be looking for bragging rights in Gauteng over the Joburg Super Kings. The Super Kings re-signed captain Faf du Plessis and wildcard Donovan Ferreira who in turn can also hit the ball a long way. Allrounder and 3rd highest value player in the auction, Wiaan Mulder, will know the conditions very well, having played much domestic cricket at the Wanderers. Imran Tahir, still going strong at the age of 46, will be looking to spin his team into the playoffs and go that one step further in lifting the trophy come the end of the season.
The Joburg Super Kings will have overseas players such as England Internationals Reece Topley, James Vince and Richard Gleeson, Australia Daniel Worrall and for the first time ever, a player representing the USA, Shubham Ranjane.
The Durban Super Giants have, arguably, the most star-studded team in the competition. With only 2 wins and finishing bottom of the standings in the previous season, these players can take DSG all the way. Overseas internationals include Noor Ahmad, wicketkeeper-batter Jos Butler, South African born New Zealander Devon Conway, Namibian David Wiese and allrounder sensation Sunil Narine will surely bring fireworks to this team. Tony de Zorzi, Heinrich Klaasen and youngster Kwena Maphaka join Protea Aiden Markram, who was bought for R14 million, in lighting up the stage at Kingsmead.
The final coastal team, Sunrisers Eastern Cape, winners of the first 2 instalments and runners up last season, also have a variety of star players who will want to reclaim the title of Betway SA20 champions. England wicketkeeper Jonny Bairstow will bring his experience to the franchise and guide youngsters such as Jordan Herman and the brothers duo CJ King and JP King. Bairstow will be joined by England bowler Chris Wood and New Zealand speedster Adam Milne as well as South African allrounder Marco Jansen who can also compete with the bat. Quinton de Kock, Matthew Breetzker and Tristan Stubbs will look to stamp their authority with the bat and ensure that the Sunrisers have a real chance to reclaim their title.
The Betway Catch R2 million will also be making a return this year as a clean, one-handed catch will see you win a share of the amazing R2 million prize on offer. If you have a registered Betway account, your share will double.
The Betway SA20 starts on 26 December 2025 with the final taking place at the iconic Newlands cricket stadium on Sunday 25 January 2026. Catch all the action live and please remember to play responsibly and within your limits!
