Chiefs, Downs & Pirates look to end 2021 with wins

The PSL Big Three of Kaizer Chiefs, Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns will be looking to end the year with victories in the 2021/22 DStv Premiership.

Chiefs will play host to Maritzburg United at FNB Stadium Stadium on December 22.

Amakhosi saw their five-match unbeaten run in the league come to an end when they lost 1-0 to Royal AM away in their most recent game on December 19.

However, the Soweto giants are undefeated in their last three home matches having recorded two wins and one draw as hosts.

Chiefs will face a Maritzburg side that is winless in their last nine matches in the league, and they lost 2-0 to Chippa United at home in their previous match on December 19.

The Team of Choice are also winless in their last seven matches on the road having recorded three draws and four defeats as the away side.

Meanwhile, Pirates will welcome AmaZulu FC at Orlando Stadium on December 23.

The Buccaneers saw their six-match unbeaten run in the DStv Premiership come to an end when they were hammered 4-1 by Sundowns away on December 17.

The Soweto giants, who are scheduled to host Marumo Gallants on December 20, are unbeaten in their last four home matches having recorded two draws and two wins in Orlando.

"It was really a fantastic physical performance in terms of the high pressing [against Sundowns], in terms of the counter-pressing," Pirates co-coach Fadlu Davids said.

"it's now the fourth game in eight days so really to be able to fight the way we did was good, but the mentality, don't give up once you go 2-0 down with two set-pieces, keep fighting, keep your heads up, you're Orlando Pirates don't give up and there's a chance for you to come back.

"No matter if it's 2-0, you can win the game 4-2 and that's what we have to work on. We've got to keep our heads up," he added. 

AmaZulu FC are undefeated in their last 10 matches in the league having secured a 1-0 win over Gallants away in their previous game on December 17 and they will be away to Sundowns on December 20 before taking aim at Pirates. 

Usuthu are also undefeated in their last five matches on the road having recorded four draws and one victory as visitors.

Sundowns will play host to Gallants at Loftus Versfeld Stadium on December 23.

Masandawana extended their unbeaten run to 25 matches in the league when they hammered Pirates last week. 

The Tshwane giants are also undefeated in their last 14 away matches having recorded two draws and 12 victories as hosts.

Their visitors, Gallants, saw their six-match unbeaten run in the DStv Premiership come to an end when they succumbed to a defeat to AmaZulu.

However, Bahlabane Ba Ntwa are undefeated in their last four matches on the road having claimed three consecutive wins and one draw.  

Elsewhere, SuperSport United will battle it out with Cape Town City at the Lucas Moripe Stadium on December 22 in their final tussle of 2021. 

Matsatsantsa are winless in their last two matches having drawn 0-0 with Sekhukhune United away in their previous game on December 18.

They are also winless in their last three home matches in the league having recorded three successive defeats at the Lucas Moripe Stadium.

On the other hand, City stretched their unbeaten run to six matches when they secured a 2-1 win over Swallows FC at home in their last game on December 18.

However, the Citizens are bad travelers as they are winless in their last six away matches having registered four draws and two defeats.
