2019-20 FA Cup

Semifinals
18-19 July 2020

Manchester City will start as clear favourites to claim a place in the FA Cup final when they face Arsenal at Wembley Stadium on Saturday 18 July 2020, kick-off at 20:45.

City, the defending champions of the FA Cup, will not only be looking to retain their crown but remain on course for a second successive treble of trophies: they secured the League Cup earlier this year, are potentially just 180 minutes away from FA Cup glory, and have the remainder of the UEFA Champions League to come.

As far as this competition is concerned, the Citizens have already eliminated Port Vale, Fulham, Sheffield Wednesday and Newcastle United.

The Manchester club has been in rampant goal-scoring form in the Premier League in recent times, though on Wednesday night they were restricted only to a 2-1 home win by a Bournemouth team fighting for their lives at the bottom of the log.

“It was a really difficult game, they played really well,” said manager Pep Guardiola. “We could not control it. Their high pressing was good. It was a difficult game. “They played with a need to stay in the Premier League. We played well in some moments. The same is going to happen against Watford. It will be so tight. It is normal.”

In head-to-head stats, Arsenal and City have met in 198 matches across all competitions. The Gunners have claimed 96 wins compared to 57 for the Citizens, while 45 games have been drawn.

The teams’ most recent meeting was a Premier League clash last month in which City claimed an emphatic 3-0 home win thanks to goals from Raheem Sterling, Kevin De Bruyne and Phil Foden. The last FA Cup clash between the teams was a semifinal in 2017 which Arsenal won 2-1 after extratime, with goals from Nacho Monreal and Alexis Sanchez.
