Chippa United and Orlando Pirates are both chasing their first Absa Premiership wins of the season ahead of their clash at Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium on 8 August 2018, kick-off at 19h30.
Chippa’s 2018/19 campaign got off to a losing start, as they were beaten 2-0 by hosts Bloemfontein Celtic at the Dr Molemela Stadium on August 5.
The Chilli Boys’ home form last term saw them pick up four wins, eight draws and three defeats for a haul of 20 points as hosts through 2017/18.
Pirates opened their campaign with a 1-1 draw at home to newly-promoted Highlands Park on August 4, as they needed a second-half penalty from Justin Shonga to cancel out an early own goal.
The Buccaneers’ away form last term saw them pick up six wins, five draws and four defeats for a haul of 23 points as visitors through 2017/18.
In head-to-head stats, Chippa and Pirates have met in 10 league matches since 2012/13. The Buccaneers have claimed six wins compared to three for the Chilli Boys, while just one game has been drawn. The Eastern Cape side has won two of five home matches in the rivalry, suffering two defeats in the process.
Last season Pirates claimed a league ‘double’ over Chippa, winning 1-0 in Soweto and 4-2 in Port Elizabeth. The Buccaneers have won four successive league matches against the Chilli Boys, and six of the last seven meetings of the teams.
