Chelsea have had the luxury of signing many great players since the arrival of Russian billionaire Romain Abramovich in 2003.
 
We take a look at the Blues' ultimate 20-man squad.
 

GOALKEEPERS

 

Petr Cech

 
The legendary Czech shot-stopper has been described by many as one of the best goalkeepers in European history having played his best football at Chelsea.
 
Cech, who registered 494 senior appearances during his time with the Blues, helped the club win four Premier League titles, four FA Cups, three League Cups, one UEFA Champions League title and one UEFA Europa League title.
 
He was a tall, athletic, agile, brave, physically strong and well-rounded keeper who had a strong mentality, as well as good decision-making and leadership qualities.

Thibaut Courtois

 
The Belgium international established himself as one of the best goalkeepers in the world during his time with Chelsea where he enjoyed a lot of success.
 
Courtois helped the Blues win the League Cup and the Premier League title in his first season. He won the league's Golden Glove as Chelsea again won the league two years later.
 
He is an excellent shot-stopper between the posts and has also distinguished himself for his agility and quick reflexes, in spite of his size and imposing physique.
 

CENTRAL DEFENDERS

 

John Terry

 
The legendary English defender is considered one of Chelsea's best players of all-time having led the team to many trophies as club captain.
 
Terry is Chelsea's most successful captain, having led them to five Premier League titles, four FA Cups, three League Cups, one UEFA Europa League and one UEFA Champions League title.
 
He was a strong, tenacious and physical defender who was known for his tough and uncompromising style of play.
 

Ricardo Carvalho

 
The Portuguese legend was one of the best defenders in the world during his time with Chelsea where he was a reliable central defender.
 
Carvalho won three Premier League titles with the Blues and was named Chelsea Players' Player of the Year in 2008 after helping the team reach the UEFA Champions League final.
 
He was known for his intelligence and ability to read the game. He was quick, good in the air and possessed superb technique and good passing ability.
 

Marcel Desailly

 
The retired French defender achieved legendary status during his six-year stint with Chelsea winning trophies just before the arrival of Abramovich.
 
Desailly captained the Blues and played as a sweeper and centre-back until the end of the 2003/04 season. He helped the team win the 1998 UEFA Cup and 2000 FA Cup.
 
He was nicknamed the 'Rock' due to his consistency, strength, aggression and hard-tackling playing style.

RIGHT-BACK

 

Cesar Azpilicueta

 
The Spain international is already a Chelsea legend having made over 350 appearances for the club and captained the team as they won the UEFA Europa League in 2019.
 
Azpilicueta also won the UEFA Europa League in his first season (2012/13) and has helped the Blues clinch two Premier League titles, FA Cup and Football League Cup.
 
He has been praised for his incredible versatility, sportsmanship and professionalism.
 

Branislav Ivanovic

 
The Serbian defender was a reliable right-back during his time with Chelsea and could also operate as a centre back like Azpilicueta.
 
Ivanovic won nine major honours with Chelsea, including three Premier League titles, three FA Cups, one League Cup, the UEFA Champions League and the UEFA Europa League.
 
He is a tall, brave, and physical player who was well known for his aerial ability, which when combined with his sheer strength.
 

LEFT-BACK

 
Ashley Cole

 
The Chelsea legend is considered by many critics and fellow professional players as one of the best defenders of his generation having excelled as a left-back.
 
Cole helped the London giants clinch two Premier League titles, four FA Cups, one Football League Cup and one UEFA Champions League.
 
He is known as an offensive-minded left-back, who tends to support his teams' forward play but is also solid defensively.
 

Graeme Le Saux

 
The retired left-back became the most expensive defender in English footballing history, at the time, when he returned to Chelsea for £5 million in 1997.
 
Le Saux was a regular at Chelsea between 1997 and 2003 where he was named in the Professional Footballers' Association Team of the Year in 1998.
 
There was a real physical presence about him due to his tough-tackling and no-nonsense attitude. 
 

CENTRAL MIDFIELDERS

 

Claude Makelele

 
The legendary French midfielder has been credited with redefining the defensive midfield role in English football, especially during the 2004/05 Premier League season.
 
Makelele won two Premier League titles, a FA Cup and Football League Cup during his five-year spell with the London giants between 2003 and 2008.
 
He was a combative and hard-working player, although he was capable of getting forward and playing in more advanced positions.
 

Michael Essien

 
The Ghanaian legend joined Chelsea for a £24.4 million transfer fee in 2005 and, at the time of his signing, was the most expensive African footballer in history.
 
Essien did not disappoint as he helped the club win the Premier League in 2006 and 2010, as well as three FA Cups, one League Cup and UEFA Champions League in 2012.
 
He is a box-to-box midfielder as he has the ability to exert energy in supporting both offensive and defensive play.
 

Frank Lampard

 
The English legend is widely considered to be the best Chelsea player of all-time and one of the greatest midfielders of his generation.
 
Lampard is Chelsea's all-time leading goalscorer (211) having won a number of trophies, including three Premier League titles, a UEFA Champions League title, four FA Cups, a UEFA Europa League title and two Football League Cups.
 
He was a hard-working player, with notable stamina and an ability to read the game. He was also an accurate set-piece and penalty kick taker.
 

RIGHT MIDFIELDERS

 

Eden Hazard

 
The Belgium captain is widely considered as one of the best players in the world since his days with Chelsea where he enjoyed a lot of success.
 
Hazard, who is known for his creativity, speed, acceleration, dribbling and passing, won two Premier League titles, a FA Cup, Football League Cup and UEFA Europa League with the Blues.
 
His speed, acceleration, and dribbling skills, combined with his creativity, as well as his flair, balance, agility and low centre of gravity make him almost impossible to stop.

"He's a player I have always appreciated," Real Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane said about Hazard on BBC in April 2019.

"He is fantastic. I will not give my personal opinion about what may happen because the season has not ended. He has played in France, I have watched him a lot and I know him personally."

Willian

The Brazilain star has achieved legendary status at Chelsea and he is one of the longest-serving players in the current team having joined the club in 2013.

A fast, agile, hard-working and technically gifted player, Willian has helped the Blues win two Premier League titles, a FA Cup, Football League Cup and UEFA Europa League.

LEFT MIDFIELDERS

 

Arjen Robben

 
The retired Dutch winger was known for his dribbling skills, speed, crossing ability and his accurate left foot long-range shots from the right-wing during his time with Chelsea.
 
Robben played an instrumental role in helping Chelsea bring home two consecutive Premier League titles, as well as two Football League Cup and FA Cups. 
 
Known for his special left foot, Robben used his speed and dribbling skills to take on defenders until he found the space to make an attempt on goal.
 

Gianfranco Zola

 
The legendary Italian winger played his best football at Chelsea and was voted the club's best player ever in 2003 which was his final year with the London giants.
 
Zola won the UEFA Cup Winners' Cup, the UEFA Super Cup, two FA Cups, the League Cup and the Community Shield during his time with the Blues.
 
He was a creative and technically gifted right-footed player, and was renowned for his ball control, his skilful dribbling ability, vision and passing ability.
 

STRIKERS

 

Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink

 
The Dutch centre forward scored 23 league goals in his first season (2000/01) with Chelsea which earned him a second Premier League Golden Boot award.
 
Hasselbaink was the Blues' top goalscorer in three seasons and helped the team clinch the FA Community Shield in 2000 after the club finished second in the Football League Cup.
 
He was a quick sprinter and had a powerful shot, able to shoot with his left-foot despite being primarily right-footed.
 

Diego Costa

 
The Spain international arguably played his best football at Chelsea between 2014 and 2017, playing an important role in helping the team win trophies.
 
Known for his determination and power, Costa won three trophies, including two Premier League titles and a Football League Cup - scoring 59 goals in 120 competitive matches.
 
He has been praised for his stature and physical style of play which "suits the Premier League down to the ground" according to Premier League legend Robbie Savage.
 

Didier Drogba

 
The Ivorian legend is considered as one of Chelsea's best strikers in the club's history and was named in the team of the 2010–2020 decade by the Blues' fans.
 
Drogba played an instrumental role in helping the London giants clinch four Premier League trophies, four FA Cups, three Football League Cup and UEFA Champions League titles.
 
He was noted for his physical strength, speed, ability in the air, powerful and accurate strikes, and his ability to retain possession of the ball.
