The Vodacom Bulls are set to take on the Xerox Lions in a titanic clash at Loftus Versfeld Stadium on Wednesday, January 6.

The Bulls have already secured their place in the semi-finals of the competition after accumulating 35 points from 10 matches. They are currently placed at the top of Currie Cup standings having recorded seven wins, one draw and two defeats.

The Pretoria giants will take on a Lions side which has also qualified for the semi-finals having collected 33 points from 11 games.

The Lions are placed third on the Currie Cup standings having registered six victories, two draws and three defeats.

The last meeting between the Bulls and Lions was on 7 November 2020.

The Bulls emerged 30-25 winners over the Lions in a Super Rugby game which was played at Emirates Airline Park.

Rudolf Straeuli, the Lions Chief Executive Officer, said he was relieved the Bulls game had not been completely cancelled, but postponed to January 6.

“Following the cancellation of two of our games in the Super Rugby Unlocked competition we are relieved that this game can at least still be played,” Straeuli said.

“I don’t want to talk on behalf of the coach about whether we will have to field two different squads, but I believe we have sufficient depth to play both matches and be fully competitive.”

Meanwhile, the Bulls are also scheduled to travel to the Mbombela Stadium in Nelspruit where they are set to take on Phakisa Pumas on Sunday, January 10.

The Pumas' hopes of reaching the semi-finals have already diminished after accumulating just 12 points from 11 matches.

The Mpumalanga-based side is currently placed sixth on the Currie Cup standings having recorded two wins, one draw and eight defeats from their allotted fixtures.

The last meeting between the Pumas and Bulls was on 21 November 2020.

The Bulls secured a comfortable 21-5 victory over the Pumas in a Super Rugby match which took place at Loftus Versfeld Stadium.
