The 2017 Dubai Sevens is set to take place this weekend at The Sevens Stadium in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.
This will be the first tournament within the 2017/18 World Rugby Sevens Series. It will be the 19th annual series of rugby sevens tournaments. South Africa are the defending champions - having won the 2016/17 Series with a comfortable 28-point margin over England. Nicknamed Blitzboks, South Africa have won the Dubai Sevens five times - including last year's tournament. Blitzboks have been pitted against Canada, Kenya,and Uganda in Pool A in this year's competition. Neil Powell, who guided South Africa to a first-place finish in the 2016/17 World Rugby Sevens Series, is still in charge of the team.
Seabelo Senatla, Kwagga Smith, Rosko Specman, Ruhan Nel and Werner Kok are the key players for South Africa.
