Barty, Svitolina on collision course

2019 China Open

ATP & WTA Tours

Finals (both): Sunday 6 October

Ashleigh Barty and Elina Svitolina are seemingly on a collision course for the semifinals of the 2019 China Open in Beijing.

Ukraine’s Elina Svitolina

Barty has thus far gotten the better of Yulia Putintseva and Zheng Saisai to push through into the final eight, with the Australian looking to continue her excellent form in 2019 (which peaked with victory in French Open back in May).

However, in the quarterfinals she will come up against a tough challenge in shape of Petra Kvitova, who has seen off Kristin Mladenovic and Belinda Bencic in straight sets.

If Barty can live up to her top seed billing, she will come up against either number three seed Elina Svitolina or eighth seed Kiki Bertens. Ukrainian Svitolina has had to battle past Anastasija Sevastova, Yafan Wang and Sofia Kenin, but will fancy her chances of advancing into the semis.

The other side of the draw features the likes of Vanessa Andreescu, Naomi Osaka and defending champion Caroline Wozniacki.
