The 2023 Masters Tournament is set to take place at the Augusta National Golf Club in Augusta, Georgia between 6 and 9 April.

What to know about the tournament

Established in 1934, this event is one of the four major championships in professional golf, but unlike the others, it is always held at the same location, Augusta National Golf Club.

The field of players is smaller than those of the other major championships because it is an invitational event which is part of the US PGA Tour European Tour and Japan Golf Tour.

Augusta National Golf Club, who are the organisers of the event, have announced that they will welcome a field of 88 for the 87th Masters Tournament and the first major of 2023.

The legendary par-72 layout, designed by Dr. Alistair Mackenzie and Bobby Jones, will play 7,545 yards with the addition of the brand-new tee box on Hole No. 13 (Azalea) that will stretch it to 545 yards.

This will also be the first event of 2023 on Bentgrass greens.

Favourites

Reigning champion Scottie Scheffler, Rory McIlroy and Jon Rahm, who are the three of the best golfers in the world based on the Official World Golf Rankings (OWGR), will be part of the field.

While Dustin Johnson, Hideki Matsuyama, Phil Mickelson, Vijay Singh, Jordan Spieth and Tiger Woods are some of the former Masters champions who will tee off at the Augusta National Golf Club.

What Is At Stake

The 2023 Masters winner will receive 100 Official World Golf Ranking points and they also earn 600 FedEx Cup points.

The field will be competing for a whooping $15 million purse and the winner's share is $2,7 million. The winner will also lift a trophy and an iconic green jacket.

Quotes

“I think I've learned that it’s a game. I've approached the highs and lows as life-and-death in different scenarios, and that’s not the case," Spieth, who won the 2015 Masters title, said on the Masters website.

"Ten years here, a lot of experience, I can look back and say I learned a lot from winning, and I learned a lot from losing. I feel better now than ever, and hopefully that continues to grow.

"But ultimately, our sport doesn't get heightened more than it does this week. I like to call it our Super Bowl. But at the same time, that’s still a game too.”
