Gresini Racing's Enea Bastianini will be looking to put last weekend's disappointment behind him at the Spanish Grand Prix on Sunday, May 1.

The Italian, who was leading the riders' standings prior to the Portuguese Grand Prix, lost control of his bike on lap 10 and ended up in the gravel to conclude his race.

Bastianini claimed his maiden premier-class win in the season-opening Qatar Grand Prix and repeated the feat in the Argentine Grand Prix a month later.

The 24-year-old is eight points behind current leaders Fabio Quartararo and Alex Rins in fourth place and acknowledged that he got over-zealous on the Algarve International Circuit in an attempt to catch up to Aprilia Racing's Aleix Espargaro.

"For sure it's a pity, I'm disappointed because we could have done well," he told GPOne.com. "We started on the right foot, I made a good start.

"I was trying to recover, I did three laps behind Pol Espargaro but I had some difficulties in passing him then I tried at turn one, but I was really on the limit.

"As I lost some ground I got a bit carried away, maybe a little too much. It's really a pity, I made a great comeback, my pace was very fast, I am convinced that I had the potential to do even better."
