Liverpool hoping to put the pressure on City

2018/19 Premier League

Round 37 preview

3-6 May 2019

Liverpool will be looking to put the pressure on Manchester City when the penultimate round of the 2018/19 Premier League season is played this coming weekend, 3-6 May.

The Reds trail champions City by just one point in the teams’ extraordinary title race and will have the chance to jump to the top of the log when they play Newcastle United away from home on Saturday night.

Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah.

A win for the Reds over the Magpies would transfer all the pressure over to the Citizens, who have arguably a much tougher match at home to Leicester City (who are in fine form after thrashing Arsenal 3-0 this past weekend) and will have to wait until Monday 6 May to play it.

There is also an interesting narrative in which the title contenders are both coming up against former Liverpool bosses who both cam close to winning the championship with the Merseyside club: Rafael Benitez at Newcastle and Brendan Rodgers at Leicester.

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola.

A win for both Liverpool and City in this round would tee up the season to go down to the wire on the final day on May 12, when the Reds will be at home to Wolverhampton Wanderers and Pep Guardiola’s side away to Brighton & Hove Albion.
