Sander Westerveld

Westerveld, in an interview, once said he would rather play in front of 45,000 at Anfield than the 1000,000 at the Camp Nou. Well, he played at the Camp Nou, and he won.

Although the Dutch keeper was later replaced by Jerzy Dudek, he brought his A-game at the Nou Camp. He retired in 2013 and became a goalkeeping coach but has since moved into a scouting role for World Soccer Consult.

Sami Hyypia

The Finnish international is one of Liverpool’s greatest players of all time without a shadow of a doubt. He was part of the Liverpool team that came back from 3-0 down to win the Champions League in dramatic fashion.

Sadly, his coaching career has not followed in the same vein as his playing career, given he has left his last two posts at Brighton and FC Zurich after facing relegation.

Vladimir Smicer

Scoring in the Champions League final in 2005 was one of the moments that underlined the importance of the Czech international’s role at Liverpool. He went on to score more big goals in his career at Liverpool.

He eventually retired and took up an administrative role with the Czech Republic national team and went on to manage Slavia Prague.

Steven Gerrard

Steven Gerrard

Few players symbolise and embody what a club stands for quit like Stevie G. It’s unfortunate that, fans and soccer lovers in general, will remember him for the infamous slip against Chelsea, which ultimately saw them lose valuable ground in the title race.

He was much more than this, few players could grab a match and the team by the scruff of the neck and carry them to countless victories that will forever be in our memory bank.

He now manages the Scottish club Rangers and after Graeme Murty was unceremoniously sacked from his position.

Michael Owen

Michael Owen

A majority of the young football community will never remember Michael Owen, the 2nd youngest Ballon d’Or winner. But rather, they’ve come to know him for his punditry and rather strange adverts.

He was quick, clever and displayed a ruthless temperament in front of goal, the Kop has not seen many like him since.
