Semi-Finals

The 2019/20 Nedbank Cup semi-finals will take centre stage at the Orlando Stadium on Saturday, August 08.

The first match of the day will be between Baroka FC and Bloemfontein Celtic at the Mecca of South African football.

Baroka secured their place in this round after recording wins over lower division side Hungry Lions, and their Limpopo rivals Polokwane City and Black Leopards.

While Celtic defeated fellow Premier Soccer League clubs AmaZulu FC and Maritzburg United and lower division outfit TS Sporting on their way to the last four.

Celtic will be banking on their five-match undefeated run against Baroka in competitive games when the two teams lock horns this weekend.

The last meeting between the two teams was on 01 March 2020 and the Absa Premiership match ended in a 2-1 win in favour of Celtic.

Dylan Kerr, the Baroka coach, believes that defeating Celtic will give them the momentum heading into their remaining Absa Premiership matches.

“If we win, it will give us good momentum going into other games. It would set us up nicely for the remaining league games and then the cup final," Kerr told City Press.

“It’s our FA Cup and the biggest competition in the league for me.

"It’s the last cup of the season and what a way it would be to end the season on a high by winning it.”

Meanwhile, the second encounter will feature two former Nedbank Cup champions Mamelodi Sundowns and their Gauteng rivals Bidvest Wits.

Sundowns booked their place in this round after recording wins over lower division side VUT Students, and their PSL rivals SuperSport United and Highlands Park.

While Wits secured wins over PSL clubs Orlando Pirates, Chippa United and lower division side Real Kings on their way to the semi-finals.

Reigning Absa Premiership champions Sundowns are undefeated in their last six competitive matches against Wits.

However, the last meeting between the two teams was on 07 January 2020 and the Absa Premiership match ended in a goalless draw.
