Stand out players in the PSL this season


Quite a few players have dazzled consistently in the current Premier Soccer League campaign so far.
 
We take a look at the top 10 stand out players in the Absa Premiership.
 

Daniel Akpeyi - Kaizer Chiefs

 
The Nigerian goalkeeper has been one of the top performers this season having kept nine clean sheets from 19 matches.
 
Akpeyi was named Player of the Month for September and October 2019 proving to be a key player for league title-chasing Chiefs.

“We have seen a fantastic Daniel Akpeyi over months, rescuing us in the final stage, saving a penalty," Chiefs coach Ernst Middendorp said on Sowetan.

“He was a player of the month [for September/October]. And what we have seen now over several months – please guys, everybody who observes Kaizer Chiefs and is following us know exactly what a goalkeeper like Daniel Akpeyi has done here during the run of the season."
 

Richard Ofori - Maritzburg United

 
The Ghana international has established himself as one of the best goalkeepers in the country with his excellent displays between the sticks.
 
Ofori has kept 10 clean sheets in 22 matches and his exploits have reportedly attracted interest from PSL giants Mamelodi Sundowns and Orlando Pirates.
 

Motjeka Madisha - Mamelodi Sundowns

 
The former South Africa under-20 captain has been enjoying his football this season as a key member of the Sundowns defence.
 
Madisha, who has picked up Man of the Match awards since the turn of the year, is one of the reasons why Masandawana have the best defensive record in the league with 15 goals conceded.

 

Reuck De Reuck - Maritzburg United

 
The promising centre back has been a consistent performer at the heart of the Maritzburg backline which has the joint second-best defensive record in the league with 17 goals conceded.
 
Many have tipped De Reuck for the Absa Premiership Defender of the Season award with Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns reportedly interested in his services.
 

Hlompho Kekana - Mamelodi Sundowns

 
The South Africa international has once again been a pillar of strength for Masandawana in their bid to defend their Absa Premiership title.
 
Kekana is the shield in front of the best defence in the league and he is also been influential going forward having scored two goals and recorded two assists.
 

Lebogang Manyama - Kaizer Chiefs

 
The midfielder-cum-forward has been very influential for the current Absa Premiership log leaders creating and scoring goals for the team.
 
Manyama has hit the back of the net six times and recorded the most assists (eight), and some believe that he should be nominated for the Footballer of the Year award.
 

Themba Zwane - Mamelodi Sundowns

 
The attacking midfielder has established himself as Sundowns'  key attacker this season with his ability to create and score goals.
 
Zwane is Masandawana's top goalscorer with nine goals and has registered four assists.
 

Frank Mhango - Orlando Pirates

 
The Malawi international has been one of the top performers this season and a key player in Pirates' revival under coach Josef Zinnbauer.
 
Mhango is the league's top goalscorer with 14 goals.
 
"I think we’re combining well as a team. When you have the quality of Mhango, Lorch and Pule – especially us, we’re used to each other," Pirates midfielder Luvuyo Memela said on Kickoff.
 
"It’s easy to play with a player like Mhango, because you always know that he likes going on the left side before coming inside to the right – he’s got a good right foot."
 

Samir Nurkovic - Kaizer Chiefs

 
The Serbian marksman's 11 goals have helped Chiefs maintain their lead at the top of the league standings in his debut season in South Africa.
 
Nurkovic, who is also in the race for the league's Golden Boot award, is widely considered to be an early contender for the Footballer of the Year award.
 

Bonginkosi Ntuli - AmaZulu FC

 
AmaZulu have relied on Ntuli for goals and he has not disappointed having netted 12 of their 13 goals in the league proving to be an important player in the team.
