Round 26
9-12 May 2021

A Soweto derby between Kaizer Chiefs and Swallows FC will headline the next round of DStv Premiership action, set to take place from Sunday 9 to Wednesday 12 May 2021.

Chiefs and Swallows will meet at the FNB Stadium next Wednesday, with the former side desperate to get back to form and boost their hopes of a top-eight finish. The Amakhosi have won just once in their last seven league outings and suffered a last-gasp 2-1 defeat at strugglers Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila on May 4.

“It is actually mind boggling what I have just seen. I felt that we deserved a little bit more again, but we keep making mistakes and it's inexcusable to make mistakes like that,” said Chiefs coach Gavin Hunt.

The round opens with one match on Sunday, as log leaders Mamelodi Sundowns look to open a seven-point lead with a win away to TS Galaxy at Mbombela Stadium. The Brazilians have shaken off a recent wobble in form and a win on their trip to Mpumalanga would bring a fourth straight title within touching distance.

Their only real threat, AmaZulu, will have to wait until Tuesday afternoon to try and cut the deficit with a home clash against Baroka FC, while the same day also sees Stellenbosch FC looking to arrest their slide toward danger, though they have a challenging clash against Orlando Pirates.

Wednesday, aside from the Soweto derby, also sees an all-KwaZulu-Natal battle as Maritzburg United host Golden Arrows, while a true relegation six-pointer sees bottom-of-the-log Black Leopards head to the Eastern Cape to face Chippa United – who will be fresh from the Nedbank Cup final played this weekend.

Their opponents in that final, Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila, will look to extend SuperSport United’s winless run in the league to 11 matches when they meet at Lucas Moripe Stadium, while Bloemfontein Celtic and Cape Town City will wrap up the round’s action with a meeting at Dr Molemela Stadium.
