Orlando Pirates are set to welcome Soweto rivals Swallows FC to Orlando Stadium on Sunday, January 10 in one of eight 2020-21 DStv Premiership fixtures scheduled for this coming weekend.

This will be the 26th meeting between the two teams across all competitions since 2004. Pirates have dominated this fixture having recorded 11 wins compared to Swallows' six victories, while eight games ended in a draw.

The last time the two Soweto teams met in a league match was on 17 December 2014 in a game which ended in a 1-1 draw at Dobsonville Stadium, prior to the Dube Birds' relegation later that season.

Josef Zinnbauer, the Pirates head coach, saw some positives from their recent 1-0 defeat to Mamelodi Sundowns which served as the opening game of the new year.

"We gave it all in the last 20 minutes, and when you do that, they could hit us on the counter," Zinnbauer said. "Then we had a little luck. I'm disappointed. We did a lot of work, it was not a bad performance. But yeah we couldn't get the goal that we needed.

"I think if we scored in the first half, we could have won the game."

Kaizer Chiefs will play host to Maritzburg United at FNB Stadium on Saturday, January 9 in a battle between two clubs at the wrong end of the standings as Ernst Middendorp returns to his former employers for the first time since being sacked at the end of last season.

The two teams will meet for the 32nd time across all competitions since 2006. Historically, Chiefs hold the upper hand in this fixture as they have registered 17 wins compared to Maritzburg's six victories, while eight games ended in a draw.

Their last meeting in the league was on 15 February 2020 and Maritzburg secured a 2-1 win over Chiefs in Soweto.

Meanwhile, Baroka FC will square off with defending champions Mamelodi Sundowns at Peter Mokaba Stadium on the same day.

This will be the 10th meeting between the two teams across all competitions since 2016. Sundowns have the edge in this rivalry as they have recorded four wins compared to Baroka's two, while three matches ended in a draw.

The last time the two teams clashed in the league was on 30 August 2020 and it was Baroka who emerged 1-0 winners at Dobsonville Stadium.
