Luke Donald will be looking to lead Team Europe to the
2023 Ryder Cup triumph in Guidonia Montecelio, Rome, Italy.
What to know about Donald
The Englishman was named as the new European Ryder Cup captain in 2022 replacing Henrik Stenson who had removed from the role having joined LIV Golf.
The 45-year-old former World No.1 was on the winning team in all four Ryder Cups in which he played and he is the first English captain since Nick Faldo in 2008.
Donald has served as vice-captain in both of the last two matches, under Bjorn in Paris and under Padraig Harrington in 2021’s record defeat at Whistling Straits, USA.
Inspiration
Donald has admitted that Team Europe have also been inspired by their women counterparts after they had retained the Solheim Cup in Malaga, Spain on 24 September 2023.
Team Europe fought back from 4-0 down to the US Team following the opening session before eventually drawing 14-14, holding on to the trophy after their victory.
Why Team Europe could win Ryder Cup
The tournament will be played in Italy which means Team Europe will be enjoying home ground advantage.
Three of the top four players in the Official World Golf Rankings (OWGR), Viktor Hovland, Jon Rahm, and Rory McIlroy are part of Team Europe.
Furthermore, Donald is a four-time winner of the Ryder Cup and his winning experience will be key to the team's hopes of winning the competition.

"As Captain, you have to be confident. I certainly have a lot of belief in my team, I know it's going to be a difficult next few days, it really is," Donald said.
"The U.S. Team are really strong, we know that. We are coming off our worst defeat ever in a Ryder Cup. US players are strong, they're high up in the world rankings, they have some great partnerships, have had a lot of success so we will have our work cut out.
"But you have to have belief in your team that you're going to get them into a place where they can be successful. "I'm looking forward to seeing how it all unfolds over the coming days."
