Round six

South Africa vs Argentina

Kick-off is at 17h05

South Africa will battle it out with Argentina in their sixth game in the 2022 Rugby Championship at home on September 24, where a win for the Springboks could hand them the title.

The Rugby Championship will be decided by this weekend's nail-biting last round of matches with both New Zealand and South Africa tied on 14 points at the top of the table. The All Blacks, though, have a superior overall points difference which sees them on top.

South Africa and New Zealand host Argentina and Australia, respectively, in the final round. The All Blacks are facing Australia at Eden Park, where they have not lost to the Wallabies in the professional era.

The Springboks secured a 36-20 win over Argentina in their last Rugby Championship match that took place in Buenos Aires on September 17.

Therefore, the world champions are undefeated in their last two matches across all competitions having recorded two consecutive wins.

The Springboks lost to New Zealand in their last home match, and the loss ended their two-match unbeaten run as the hosts.

“Our mindset was to come here and get maximum points, and even though the momentum changed in the game we always believed we could get the win, and we knew that involved using our opportunities," Springboks captain Siya Kolisi said after their win over Argentina.

“We had a good start to the game and Argentina came back nicely, but the biggest thing was to stick together as a group, and we said we want to win the Castle Lager Rugby Championship.

“The coaches believe in us, and we believe in ourselves, and we have ambitions of doing much more. I’ve heard the match in Durban is sold out and we are excited to get home for a big game next week. We are looking forward to it.”

Meanwhile, Argentina will be seeking revenge when they take on South Africa who will be confident of securing another win over the Pumas.

The Pumas are winless in their last two matches across all competitions having recorded two successive defeats.

Argentina have also been inconsistent on the road having registered two defeats and one win in their last three matches as the visitors.

The last time South Africa played host to Argentina was on 21 August 2021. Springboks claimed a 29-10 win over the Pumas in a 2021 Rugby Championship match which was played at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium in Port Elizabeth.
