Max Verstappen will look to build on his lead in the Formula 1 World Championship when Round 14, the Italian Grand Prix, is held at the Autodromo Nazionale di Monza on the afternoon of Sunday 12 September 2021.

Verstappen claimed top spot in the Drivers’ standings when he claimed a flawless victory at the Dutch Grand Prix in Zandvoort last weekend, taking his tally to 224.5 points – just three ahead of Lewis Hamilton of Mercedes on 221.5.

“It's difficult to put into words," said the 23-year-old after his win in front of his adoring home fans. "A lot was expected of me this weekend, but we did it. It's been a really positive week. You need a car to be able to win a race, and we did – we had a very good car. We pulled it off, and it was a real team effort.”

Monza, however, will be a more difficult challenge, as the famous circuit has traditionally favoured Mercedes and their impressive straight-line speed in the past – though Verstappen believes the Red Bulls will work hard on matching the ‘Silver Arrows’ in this regard.

"They are quick on the straights. Yes [I am too] but not as quick as them. But we will work hard to make up for that top speed loss, and we'll try to give it our all,” said the Dutchman.

Verstappen will be chasing a third win in as many weekends, having also taken ‘victory’ with half points at the rained out Belgian Grand Prix at the end of August. If he manages to do so, it will be his second hat-trick of wins this season, having also taken three in a row by dominating at the French, Styrian and Austrian Grands Prix back in June and July.
