‪2020-21 DStv Premiership

18-19 May 2021

The battle for survival will intensify in a midweek round of ‪2020-21 DStv Premiership fixtures set for Tuesday and Wednesday this week.

The majority of teams only have three matches remaining and for those fighting relegation, that is nine valuable points up for grabs.

Mathematically, one of nine teams - including Kaizer Chiefs - could still finish in the relegation play-off spot while Stellenbosch FC and Chippa United are the only two teams in realistic danger of being caught by bottom of the table Black Leopards.

Lidoda Duvha's fate could well be sealed before they return to the field next week. If both Stellenbosch FC and Chippa United win on Tuesday, it would leave the Limpopo club nine points adrift and on the brink of a return to the GladAfrica Championship.

Stellies are away to Swallows FC in one of three matches scheduled for Tuesday. The Dube Birds have already confirmed their top-flight status following promotion to the elite league last year and while their return to the Premiership has drawn mostly positive reviews, they will be eager to snap a five-game streak of 1-1 draws.

In total, Swallows have played to an unprecedented 17 stalemates this season, but have only lost one single match thus far.

Stellenbosch have dropped into the relegation scrap on the back of a nine-game winless run and now sit just a single point above Chippa in 15th.

The Chilli Boys, who have boosted their survival hopes with a four-game unbeaten run, host Bloemfontein Celtic while Baroka FC will tussle Nedbank Cup champions Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila (TTM) in a Limpopo derby.

Bakgaga are on the verge of safety after ending AmaZulu's unbeaten run while Vhadau Vha Damani have won three of their last five matches.

"It is massive, not just because of the result but because of the way we played. I thought we were fantastic," said TTM head coach Dylan Kerr following their win over Maritzburg United this past weekend. "It was a very pleasing performance and makes a massive difference.

"If we can go into the game against Baroka with that same work ethic and that same enjoyment then that is another three points. We don't want to get too ahead of ourselves, we still have three tough games. I am just delighted for the players.

"The competition within the team is there and I can't ask for more."

On Wednesday, Golden Arrows will be eager to end a four-game winless run and strengthen their grip on third with victory over eighth-placed TS Galaxy while Maritzburg United, who are one of three teams tied on 28 points, will be aiming to bounce back to winning ways away to Cape Town City.
