Back at the top of the
Serie A pile once more, Napoli will turn their attention to midweek duties when they face Lecce at Stadio Ettore Giardiniero on Tuesday evening.
The reigning Italian league champions went into matchday eight sitting in third position, however, their recent 3-1 win over Inter Milan propelled them to the summit of the table this past weekend.
In what was a cagey affair at Stadio Diego Armando Maradona, Napoli were led by goals from Kevin De Bruyne, Scott McTominay and Andre-Frank Anguissa to record their sixth win of the campaign.
While Napoli collected 18 points from their first eight matches, Lecce are 16
th with six points to their name so far.
Lecce will go into their next assignment on the back of a 3-2 loss against Udinese, in a game that took place at the Bluenergy Stadium on Saturday, 25 October.
Speaking after Napoli’s win, Antonio Conte reserved stern words to Inter president Beppe Marotta, who spoke on his club’s behalf after the game.
“Inter always send Marotta or the directors. Here in Naples, I come out myself. A team must make the right evaluations and understand why it lost – otherwise you create alibis for the players and the coach,” Conte boldly expressed.
“I never allowed it. With all respect to Marotta – he should leave these things to those who were on the pitch. I have always defended myself, not with ‘official defences’ from others.”
